The United Road Transport Union (URTU), the first and (to date) only Joint Approval Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT) centre to lose approval to deliver Driver CPC training has decided to appeal against the decision.
Approval was lost by URTU last month following an investigation by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) into allegations URTU (allegedly) finished a 7 hour course too early (2.30pm when it should have finished at 5pm) as well as incorrect break times.
The rules clearly state that approved courses must last at least 7 hours. URTU are within their rights to appeal against removal of approval. Under DSA terms and conditions they (URTU) have 28 days to lodge an appeal. It is understood the appeals tribunal has the powers to suspend, remove or indeed re-instate JAUPT centre approval. Confirmation of the hearing date has still to be announced.
Much has been written about URTU and its loss of approval to deliver Driver CPC training. Many reputable training providers have supported the decision and action taken by the DSA If training companies fall foul of the conditions of Driver CPC training delivery then it is only right and proper that approval is removed. In light of the original evidence it will be interesting to see how URTU will argue its case for re-instatement.
