There is no mandatory qualification required to become an HGV Driving Instructor. Currently only three years licence entitlement is sufficient. The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) introduced the DSA LGV Training qualification (over 12 years ago) on a voluntary basis with a view to making it mandatory further down the line.
12 years on and it still is voluntary. This means Instructors and Employers can choose to get DSA approved or not. If you were looking to undergo HGV training it would make sense to go with a training company that goes the extra mile and chooses to invest (time and money) in The DSA approval rather than one that didn’t.
DSA approval. is aimed at recognising the competency and professionalism of an HGV driving instructor. To join the register an instructor must demonstrate his knowledge and skills by passing a number of theory and practical tests in LGV instruction.
To ensure quality and consistency DSA Instructors must renew their approval every 4 years. Other instructor qualifications include RTITB (Road Transport Industry Training Board), ITTSAR, etc. Use our approved search engine to find your nearest professional HGV Training provider.
